Agra Agricultural and Industrial Exhibition, Silver Award Medal, 139.87g, 1867, Obv: Two long- Horned Zebu Cattle, Two Sheep and a Horse, Rev: Fruit and floral wreath awarded to “Best Fall For Canal Colonel Dyas R.E.”. The exhibition details engraved on rim (Pudd# 867.3). In original ? red leather fitted case. Mint state, extremely rare. These Medal dies were engraved by J.S. & A.B Wyon. Joseph Henry Dyas Passed out of the East India Company Military Seminary, Addscomble in 1844, winning a First Class Prize for being 2nd Mathematical, 1st Fortification and 2nd Good Conduct. He went on to become the Director of Canals in the Punjab and was responsible for the Bari Doab Canal. Thomas Henry Thornton’s biography of Colonel Sir Robert Sandeman (Pub. 1895) records that Dyas “died of over work, year ago”.
