Aurangzeb, Silver Unusual 1/16 Rupee- Nisar, 0.59g, Burhanpur Mint, with “….Julus Burhanpur” part of inscription visible on both sides. Very fine, extremely rare.
It is unusual for such a small coin to be struck in error, with reverse appearing on both sides. However, the issue of small denomination coins, particularly for use as largesse, was often prompted by emergency, such as the need for alms giving in natural or human adversities. It is therefore possible that the coin was struck as a ‘Nisar’ for ritual use and that allowed for such an error to occur.
