Feudatory issue under Nawabs of Alinagar and Thuwn, Zulfiqar Khan, Copper Paisa, 7.68g, “Fish” type, Thuwan / Thoon Nagar Mint, imitating the Maratha issues of Brindaban (Mominabad), in the name of Shah Alam II, AH 1210/ RY 31. Very fine, very rare. The town of Thoon with its adjoining village of Nagar became the seat of Zulfiqar Ali Khan, a Mewati warlord in the turbulent time of late 1780s when the region became a hotbed of political intrigues between the Mughalia nobles, the Marathas, the Rohillas and the Jats. Rare copper coins were struck at Thoon, probably to take profits of local copper mining and pilgrim circuit of the Braj region.
