Rashtrakutas in Maharashtra, Unattributed Copper, 2.74g, “Horseman” type, Obv: Warrior riding on a horse, facing right, Brahmi/Kannada legend “Shri… Valabha(?)” to right, Rev: A frontal Garuda figure, seated on a lotus and holding two snakes in his hands (Unpublished in major sources). Extremely fine, exceedingly rare. The legend on the coin is difficult to read, as it appears to be in a hybrid-stylized script. It most likely ends in ‘Vallabha’, which was the ending of many Rashtrakuta titles. The ascription of the coin to the Rashtrakutas is however, beyond any doubt, as suggested by its constituent motifs.
