The Province of Sira in southern India was a subah of the Mughal empire, established in 1687 by Aurangzeb after the fall of the Bijapur Sultanate. The province, which comprised the Carnatic region south of the Tungabhadra river, had its capital in the town of Sira, presently located in Tumakuru district, Karnataka State. It was composed of seven parganas (districts): Basavapatna, Budihal, Sira, Penukonda, Dod-Ballapur, Hoskote and Kolar. Qasim Khan was appointed the first subahdar of Sira. During the reign of Shah Alam Bahadur, Sira was under the command of Daud Khan Panni and Sa’adatullah Khan, both later became the Nawabs of Arcot.
