Mahmud I- Mahmud Begada, Gold Tanka, 11.47g, “Mint-less and Dateless” type, Arabic legend on both sides, Obv: “al-Sultan Mahmud Shah Khallada Mulkahu wa Saltanahu”, Rev: “al-Wathiq bi-Tayid al-Rahman Nasir al-Dunya wa-al din Abu al-Fatah” (Not listed in G&G). Extremely fine, exceedingly rare. An hitherto unpublished Gold Tanka of probably the greatest Sultans of Gujarat, who ruled for fifty years and consolidated his rule not only throughout Gujarat but also in marginal and coastal regions such as Jagat in Kutch and Diu in Saurashtra.
