Jahangir, Silver Sawai Rupee (25% Heavy weight), 14.29g, Lahore Mint, Ilahi Month Amardad, AH 1020 / RY 2 (in error for RY 6), Obv: Persian couplet hemistich citing “Jahangir Shah Nur al-din Jahangir ibn Akbar Badshah” with RY at the bottom, in ornate Mihrabi border, Rev: Persian “hemistich Bar Zar Lahore zad Ain Sikka dar Khurdad Mah” in decorative Mihrabi border (ex-Manzoor Mirza collection). Extremely fine, exceedingly rare. The Sawai standard was abolished by Jahangir on the 11th of Ardibihisht AH 1020, which is the 2nd month of the year. Perhaps the instruction didn't reach Lahore in time, as this specimen of Khurdad, the 3rd month, is still struck to the Sawai standard. The coin is thus highly unusual, apart from being a rare example of a Khurdad month couplet from Lahore mint.
