Plate Specimen. Very fine, exceedingly rare. Khusrau Khan, originally a Hindu from Gujarat who had been converted to Islam, rose to power after defeating and killing Sultan Qutb al-Din Mubarak Shah of the Khalji dynasty in 1320. He briefly occupied the throne of Delhi for about four months. His accession marked a sharp break with the established political order: he favoured his own supporters, including many converts and non-Turkish groups, and challenged the dominance of the Turkish nobility. His policies also appear to have challenged established practices of religious discrimination and the enslavement of women and captives as war booty. These measures, together with his treatment of the powerful nobles, provoked fierce opposition. The Turkish nobles eventually rallied behind Ghazi Malik, the future Sultan Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq, who defeated Khusrau Khan and ended his short-lived rule.
