Rashtrakutas, Govinda IV, Gold Varaha- Gadyana, 4.36g, “Lion” type, Obv: “Lion with tail curled facing right with front paw raised, a plough or banner to right, Rev: Hale-Kannada legend “Sri Nanni / Vedanga” (K Ganesh# ‘Karnataka’ 2.5, plate specimen). Uncirculated, exceedingly rare. A coin with “Nanni Vedanga” legend was first published by Shri. M. Nityanand Pai and attributed to Rashtrakuta ruler Govinda IV on the basis of epigraphical evidence, as ‘Nanni Vedanga’ appears as his title in inscriptions. It was also subsequently published in K Ganesh's book 'Karnataka Coins' (p. 15-16) and by Michael Mitchiner.
