Estimate:   -
Lot is Closed !!

Gangas of Talkadu /Feudatories, Gold Gadyana, 3.87g, Uninscribed, “Elephant” type, Obv: Caparisoned Elephant standing facing left, Kannada letter ‘Shri’ above and a floral scroll below its belly, Rev: Goddess seated frontally and cross-legged, under a Prabha supported by two pillars most likely to be a depiction of a Jaina deity, probably Ambika. She holds a small stick / spoon in one hand and a platter in the other (K Ganesh ‘Karnataka’ 3.10, plate specimen). Extremely fine, exceedingly rare. A highly unusual and rare variation on the usual ‘Gajapati’ design coins issued by the Gangas. It is plausible that this type was struck for ritual donations involving a (Jaina?) festivity and celebration.
